Satellite or Cellular

We will be traveling the Caribbean starting in November for about a year. We will start in BVI and eventually make our way to Grenada. I am struggling with what I need to purchase in order to have communication ie weather, email, texting, some internet in order match our needs. I was contemplating getting the Iridium Go through Predict Wind, but that doesn't do much for the internet. Is that overkill for the Caribbean? I was contemplating getting a cellular booster, but not sure what provider to use. We currently have Verizon. They want additional $100 a month for a International Plan. Do most cruises just go buy sim cards? What do you do when you are not in a marina? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Easiest for me was to buy SIM cards. Make sure your phone is unlocked, and double check what bands your phone uses. Verizon branded phones tend to not be as international friendly as other carriers.
