RF Choke problem....maybe?

Hi,

Connected to my Raymarine backbone among other things is a Raymarine RS150 standalone GPS. Its mounted up top of my radar arch on a 5m spur cable, which is the long spur cable.

It had worked flawlessly for about a 1 year, then last weekend it sudddenly dropped offline as a source of data for the chart plotter. The LED on the GPS was flashing red indicating it had power (which is also supplied through the spur cable).

I reseated all the cables and even tried a different plug into the backbone - no joy.

Roll forward to this weekend and it fired up just fine. Raymarine say the failure rate on the RS150 is very low and to look at the cable, which makes sense.

I have just noticed that I don't have those clamp on RF chokes on the spur cable. I will put two on, one at either end - would this be typically how a RF interference problem would present (intermittent data loss but still have power) and is the RF choke what would fix it?

The second RF choke will be exposed to the weather - how do you waterproof them?

Cheers,

AG

Not your issue

If you lose gps again. Find your seatalkng device list. And see if it's in that list.

Do you have the proper 2 end terminators ?
