Replace depth transducer cored hull - r&r thru with in hull?

Hammered my old thru hull transducer out, now there is a 2 inch hole. Has anyone had any experience filling the hole with solid fiberglass then attaching an in hull ("glue on") transducer to the solid filler? I bought this hawkeye d10d and would like to use the included in hull transducer. Thanks, Roger

You will need to fare the hole 12 to 1 and then fiberglass over with a backing plate. Not sure about the glue on transducer.

Through hulls should be bolted to the hull NOT glued...

Are you 100% positive that your hull is cored BELOW THE WATERLINE?

The hole repair will go something like this:

Grind out to a 12-1 bevel

Cut glass (I used biaxial) in circles gradually getting smaller. Use the largest one first and add on the smaller ones sequentially

Grind down, fair, finish.

This is a depth transducer, not a thru hull seacock.... Epoxying it in should be fine... you need a good solid bubble free fiberglass to place it on though. Nice photo explanation of the repairs!

Not sure I would need to fair as the transducer only sees a window of about 14 degrees, which is far less than a 12 to 1, which is about 160 degrees. Also pretty sure the hull is cored, but will double check. Thanks, Roger
