Raytheon HSB Scanner/Plotter

I just purchased a 1988 Island Packet C31 which is equipped with a Raytheon radar/GPS unit with the HSB plotter. It came with NT cards for the Great Lakes, but since I'll be sailing out of Washington NC, these cards are of little use to me.

My questions is regarding the current NT+ cards which seem to be plentiful on line, and the NT cards that I am finding not so much. Is the NT+ card reverse compatible with the NT?

One other thing. Can I upgrade just the plotter without having to mess with the scanner, compass, etc.?

Thanks

Dennis

Call Raymarine tech support and they will advise you on all these issues. Their number is on the website. You can also use the website to ask a question and they will email you an answer.

Re: Raytheon HSB Scanner/Plotter

Welcome to the forum Dennis.

Most plotters that will accept NT cards will accept NT+ cards, but before investing you really need to check. The handbooks are available online.
Raymarine used to have very good technical support, but since they have been sold it has suffered from cutbacks. They are good at making sure if you update one piece of equipment you need to change the lot.

The scanner probably won't work, but anything with NMEA or sea talk can be be made to function so the compass is likely to be fine.

Post the exact models you have and what you wish to upgrade too and someone may be able to answer directly.

Thanks, Noelex77.
The manual I have states that the display transfers SeaTalk, NMEA and HSB data. I just have to verify that a SeaTalk or NMEA communication interface system was originally installed.
I agree I need to get the info from the "horses mouth" to be sure. I have already asked the question at Raymarine support.

It sounds like an RL70 (or 80 same medel different sized screen).

Is it the C or C plus model (as in RL70C plus)?

How is compass connected? From the autopilot or standalone?

Noelex 77:
Raymarine just sent me a response and gave me the info I need to answer your question. I have to boot up the system and see the opening screen to tell which one it is: A Raymarine logo on the greeting screen and it is a C+ unit; a Raytheon logo is a C unit.
A plus unit can take the NT+ cards. The other only the NT cards which are only available from C-Map.
I now have to wait until the next time I'm at the boat which will not be untill the end of January...so this project is on a 30 day hold.
Thanks again for your help.
