Raymarine STNG Backbone connector...

Does Raymarine, or anyone else, make a STNG field installable backbone connector?

I have to run a STNG backbone through a 4 meter duct that is big enough for the cable but not the connector. Id prefer to install a new connector than have to splice on the chopped off one.

I can only find N2K connectors on the interwebs....

tia!

So you are saying this won't work - https://www.amazon.com/Raymarine-Sea...s%2C146&sr=8-1

But, Raymarine do not sell just the connectors, as far as I know.

Re: Raymarine STNG Backbone connector...

To my knowledge Raymarine doesn't make field terminatable connectors. One option would be to use a NMEA backbone and a NMEA to Raymarine connector to join the two but cutting and splicing an existing STNG cable is probably going to be cheaper and easier.

How small is the duct you are going through? One of the benefits of the seatalkNG connectors is how small they are, less than 0.5 inch in diameter.
I have not seen field installable seatalkNG connectors

Alternatively I could removed all the other cabling, run the Backbone cable, and re run all the other cables i had to remove to run the backbone.. but why turn a 1 hour job into a 3 day ordeal.... because boats do that.

Space is just enough for the cable only, and no alternative routing options.

Given the size of the seatalkNG connector, I can't see having to remove more than 1 or 2 cables to accomplish this. depending on the size of the duct, just attache tracers to each cable you remove and it should not add much more than 20-30 minutes of time to your project

Re: Raymarine STNG Backbone connector...

Cutting and splicing is not an easy task. It takes a very fine soldering iron, various heatshrink, a fair bit of skill and a lot of patience. Try and avoid if you can.
