Raymarine ST70 wind

Hi All,

on a jeanneau 57 of 2011, i have a bit of a mess with my raymarine st70 wind vane/unstruments.
as you can see from the pictures , i have a black cable that comes down the mast from the windvane, which then goes into a corroded china connector, connecting the different strands to another black cable which then goes into the wind transducer, and then that plugs into my backbone.
when i plug it in all my instruments go blank.
i like to (apart from doing away with the china connector as it seems useless and connect the black cable directly to the transducer)
understand if there wind vane works correctly. How can i do that?
on the black cable, with the instrument unplugged is there anything i can measure?

than you.

Re: Raymarine ST70 wind

I'm no expert and cannot figure out some mysteries.
But, what else is plugged into the back bone?
I have the ray instruments but they are backbone connected to a BG charterplotter and Horizon vhf radio. With everything on, if I were to turn of the vhf at the unit and then turn it on again, all my instruments (except depth) go blank.
I would need to turn everything off, then turn all on except I need to make sure the radio turns on 1st.
A mystery, I just deal with it at this point.
My thought for you is try to separate the wind instrument from everything else, see if it works on its own.
Good luck! Greg

Re: Raymarine ST70 wind

Your wind vane is an analog transducer.

The pod at the bottom of the mast is the wind transducer pod that converts the analog signal to NMEA 2000 and transmits onto the SeatalkNG/NMEA 2000 network.

The connecter into which the black & white cables, a blue cable and a blue plug is connected is a SeatalkNG 5 way connector.

The blue cables are referred to as backbone cables, the black & white cables are spur cables. The blue plug is a 120ohm network terminator. There should be another at the other end of your network.

I suggest you read the Raymarine networking guide to understand the components of your network

To test if your wind vane is working, follow these instructions

Certainly make sure that the splice/connection on the wind vane cable and the connection into the wind transducer pod are sound.

Good luck
