Raymarine ST6000 re-calibrating without an indicating control unit

The boat is new to us, no idea how old the auto pilot is but I'm thinking it just needs to be re-calibrated after the batteries were out for the winter, the unit at the wheel is not an indicating control unit, it has no screen where messages would be displayed, the only other control unit is the remote unit with the long cord, so the question being, how do you re-calibrate without seeing any messages or course info?
