Raymarine ST60 Wind Speed

Hello All,
I just finished what is likely my last sail weekend of the season and had a couple oddities occur (better the end of the season than the beginning). For this forum category, I'll stick to the topic.

My ST60 wind display suddenly went to 0.0 when I changed from true to apparent and never came back up. It occurred at the exact moment I pushed the button. The direction indicator is fine and points the correct direction and appears calibrated. The masthead unit is turning but 0.0 never changes. I've powered down and back on with no luck. I'd prefer not to re-calibrate it, but I will if I have to.

I've looked for a similar thread, but the ST60 topics are all over the place. I do notice that many people report dashes on the display while mine says 0.0.

Thanks for any help

First look up at the mast and make sure the cups are rotating.

Next check the connections carefully. Often there is a join at the mast step which is very vulnerable to corrosion.

Have you tried calling Raymarine? They are probably in Annapolis for the boat show, but I'd give them a call next week. The number is on the website.

Re: Raymarine ST60 Wind Speed

noelex: Yes, I have looked at the masthead unit and it is turning. I'll check the mast step.

TheOffice: Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know they would offer live tech support. I'll give them a call after the shows. My timing was horrible as I was in Annapolis last weekend!

There tec support used to very good as well. I think their web site still has information about the multimeter readings expected from the wind sensor.

Re: Raymarine ST60 Wind Speed

Here is a copy paste from the Raymarine tech support forum. I intepret this to be the blue 0-5 referenced to shield is windspeed. I'd check at the mast foot joint (if you have one) and the instrument plug.

Masthead Test:
masthead cable check with a volt meter, on these colors, using the shield or bare wire as a reference point, to the red 8vdc should be there, then to the yellow and green you should see about 2-6vdc, and then to the blue 0-5 vdc depending on how fast the wind is blowing,. 8vdc going up and the rest coming back down, if nothing is coming down then the masthead transducer or cable is bad, if current coming down then the display would be the problem.

did you find the answer - I have the same problem
I have voltage coming out all coloured wires from transducer feed\

I suspect it has something to to with VMG setting

how is that vmg turned off?

Re: Raymarine ST60 Wind Speed

Benetoe,
I'm sorry to say I haven't fixed it, yet. I will likely wait until the spring to address it. I'll post here when I do.

Good luck!

Re: Raymarine ST60 Wind Speed

I have raised this via posts with raymarine
they very conveniently avoid commenting directly about this issue
all you get is dribble about checking connections & masthead. very suspicious they will not address this issue directly.
I suspect it is a well-known warranty defect .

Re: Raymarine ST60 Wind Speed

This issue turned up unwanted on a recent Sunday outing, switching true and app had no effect nor did a breaker reset. In our case one of the crew knocked the st60 wind into a calibration or config mode and a reset got us back and working. Take a look at the manual and the use of display and true / app buttons as you may have a similar issue.

Re: Raymarine ST60 Wind Speed

(eg -hold down for 4+ seconds ...)

Re: Raymarine ST60 Wind Speed

Was the speed/log working? If the paddlewheel was gunged up, and you had no boat speed showing, there will be no difference between true and apparent wind indication.
