Raymarine smart controller reads no pilot

What did I hook up wrong?

First there is the rf base for the smart controller. Do I hook this to a three wired white cable or to the two wired yellow cable?

There came with something a little black box with thre sets of the older style plug, do I use is for anything? Right now the rf base is attached directly to my seatalkng system using the yellow cable. It charges and turns on but won't read pilot.

This is for the evo-100 with the acu-100

The new autopilot communicates in SeaTalk NG (NMEA2000). The smart controller in SeaTalk1. You will need a E22158 converter to accomplish what you are trying to do.

I got that converter, I just don't know if I am hooking it up right. Right now, the converter came with a five terminal bar. Blue, white, yellow, white, blue.

I have another five terminal bar, but no yellow in the middle that came with something else. I have the right blue plugs on both bars connected with a short blue cable. I have the white plug next connected to an I70 instrument, I'm not sure which one.

the yellow in the middle, at first I had left blank. I had plugged the rf base for the smart controller into the white plug. Inside the rf base there are slots for three colored wires. There is no manual I know of that explains how to attach the rf base. So I guessed. I assumed it worked since my smart controller (SC) charged and turned on, but when I plugged in my autopilot after mounting it the next day, the SC said no pilot see red, even the the i70 panel works and e pilot works.

so I switched and hooked the yellow plug in, instead of the white one. Still acts the same.

So what am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help, I tried to make it as clear as I could.

Re: Raymarine smart controller reads no pilot

the yellow ones goes to the RF base. cut the flat 3 prong plug off the other end and connect the red, yellow, and shield into the RF base. it's 3 wires.

you need 2 blue resistors. one at either end. you need power into one of the whites. both 5 way blocks probably came with a power cable. you only need one. the rest of the white ones go to your seatalk NG products. pilot, pilot screen, chart plotter etc.

I don't know how your thing is charging by hooking up the RF base... a separate seatalk plug can be wired somwehere on the boat to 12v (red and shield) for charging the hand set. it's nothing to do with the base.

The smart remote base connects to the yellow connector on the converter. The connections are color coded for a reason. Blue for backbone, white for Spurs and the yellow for SeaTalk. Note the color of the plugs and match them.

Plugging into the white as you did will power the base unit as it is drawing power from the backbone, there is no SeaTalk conversion though.

Did you already connect the acu-100 to the sea talk ng. You need to do that.

Re: Raymarine smart controller reads no pilot

As long as you do not connect the acu-100 you will have a " No Pilot " indication.
Even if all the other wires are correctly connected.

Re: Raymarine smart controller reads no pilot

It was the fact that I didn't have the rf base plugged into yellow. I didn't know what it was for. But now I do!
