Question Raymarine Seatalk to Seatalkng interface

Sorry if this subject has already been discussed but I need help on this :
I have an old Raymarine chartplotter RL70RC, radar and ST60 instruments on my boat. All were installed in 2001.
I am doing a deep refit of the systems, including the autopilot and I want to upgrade my chartplotter to a new Axiom+9" and the radar to a Quantum Q24C.
I am told by some that the old ST60 instruments cannot interface with the Seatalkng network. That only ST60+ type instruments can be interfaced.
I do not know what is the difference between the ST60 and ST60+ instruments but my old ST60 instruments work fine and I would rather keep them if I can.
Can someone help me with this?https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ies/nonono.gif

You can use your st60 instruments with the newer plotter using an adapter to convert the seatalk to seatalkNg to N2K.

Here’s a write up.

Re: Raymarine Seatalk to Seatalkng interface

@sailmonkey suggests the way to do this. I just did it, works great. You'll probably need to purchase an additional SeaTalk connector block and a cable to connect to your existing block, you may be out of space on your connector block (I was). I could only find 3 port connector blocks, although realistically you could do it with a bit of chocolate block/terminal strip instead of the proprietary Raymarine block.

I use the converter Sailmonkey recommends and connect the NMEA2000 devicenet port to my Raspberry Pi via a PiCAN-M hat and get all my ST60 data on my pi.

Easy peasy

I also did what you want to do. The nice thing of the converting bar is that it allows one single ST1 connection, and that is fine as your st60s should all be interconnected with the 3-pin plug already, thus allowing the whole line to connect to your new STNG backbone. If you need more connections, additional bars are needed but if the additional connections are STNG, there are T-connections that are much cheaper.
I recommend to carefully read the RM description of STNG logic, it is not complicated but it will help make the right design. Quantum btw connects directly to Axiom.

Re: Raymarine Seatalk to Seatalkng interface

About a year back I replaced my RM X-5 with a new Evo autopilot. Kept my old Pathfinder Radar and ST60 instrument set. Use the X5 for a NMEA 0183 to ST conversion (and AP backup). Used the RM STNG to ST converter block to tie the two networks together. It all plays together like that configuration was in the RM original plan. Not sure just who is talking to whom but all the required parameters appear in right places and the AP will track on wind angles (one of the real pluses of the Evo).

As I was coming up one STNG port short, I powered the network system by a fused jumper between the autopilot 12V supply and the STNG power lead on the ACU 100 (RM to cheap to make this connection on the wheel pilot circuit card).

Mine is set up with the kit described above. The work was done when a previous owner upgraded/added an ST400Mk2 AP. Works fine. I just added a new Axiom without issue. The only thing I ran into tinkering with it is that the old displays should be powered only through the connection to the new network, otherwise they will not report reliably/at all.

Agreed, or alternatively fish the red power wire out of the Yellow /black wire which has three wires inside and cut it, but only if you already have the ST60s powered from elsewhere.

Following. We, too, have ST60 instruments that were installed in 2001. All but one is still working, and working well...but they are getting older.

Re: Raymarine Seatalk to Seatalkng interface

Just went thru an upgrade to the Axiom+ and I60 instruments and an existing auto pilot. Raymarine sent me via email a schmetaic

https://raymarine.custhelp.com/ci/in...5821d352320766

It's pretty simple, backbone and converter, just wish I had it and the right Tech in the beginning. The Tech I ended up was fantastic.
Good luck.

Are you able to control the autopilot from the Axiom?

We have the exact same setup, except with the addition of an ITC-5 for our speed and wind transducers. We control the autopilot from the Axiom+ or the I70p.

Re: Raymarine Seatalk to Seatalkng interface

Thanks.

I have a ST7001 autopilot (not sure yet which course computer), which works fine. But I don’t have a working chartplotter and the current control head at the helm doesn’t work.

There’s a working P70 at the nav station, but I want also want autopilot control from the helm.

Will be installing an Axiom at the helm and trying to figure out if I will be able to control the existing autopilot from the Axiom, assuming SeaTalk to SeaTalkNG converter connects the course computer to the STNG backbone.

Raymarine says “no” but it sounds like you and others have done it.

Raymarine Seatalk to Seatalkng interface

With a Seatalk to Seatalkng , you will be able to engage and disengage the autopilot from the axiom ( and have it follow track etc) to allow you to control it completely you need a later gen Seatalkng pilot ( evo etc ) , ie you will still end the ap control head.

So it depends on your definition of control
