Raymarine Rotary Drive-AutoPilot

I have had some problems with the rotary drive for my Type 1 6000 Autopilot. Its the drive unit that uses a sprocket and chain that attaches directly to the rack and pinion system.

Within the rotary drive unit are a set of plastic planetary gears that attach to the forward mounting cover. At times these gears bind and in a couple of instances they have bound so that the machine screws holding the ring gear have failed. I installed one size larger machine screws to get it working again however the gears still bind up at times.

Raymarine claims that they do not carry a spare ring gear however have they do have the planet gears.

Has anybody had a similar problem and any suggestions for a fix?

Anyone out there have some spare parts floating around?

Re: Raymarine Rotary Drive-AutoPilot

I'm running into the same issue now with our Type 2. Opened the unit up and one of the screws fell out and the gear teeth had all worn away. Called Raymarine, they said they don't have part numbers and I either need to go to an authorized dealer or send it in (way to expensive I'm assuming to send it in)

So I went to an authorized dealer here in the Jacksonville, FL area and they called and got the same line of BS about having to send it in.

Luckily I found them here https://www.waveinn.com/nautical-fis...ears/1308643/p

Hope this helps anyone else in the same situation
