Raymarine Linear Feedback Sensor

Does anyone know what the resistance is of the 8" stroke sensor?
I would like to build one for my EV-100 pilot

Which model , do you mean the rudder feedback pot. , that's 5K centre wiper . I'm not aware there's a linear pot in the drive units.

Yes, the linear pot..there are several models, I need the 8" stroke resistance

I'm confused , the Raymarine linear drive contains no linear pot. These drives are open loop , the feedback being provided by the external rudder reference unit. The connections are motor and clutch only.

Are you talking about the tiller pilot range . If so , if you have a model number I have access to some of the service manuals that may answer your questions. There was a fair number of these versions of tiller pilots from the Autohelm days right up to recent

But Raymarines electric linear drive unit has no feedback linear unit. It doesn't need one. It has the separate rudder angle sensor.

Ok -yours is square in section, ComNav's is cylindrical like a bicycle pump. ComNav's is interchangeable with their sweep type, which is 0 to 800ohms thru 90 degrees, if I recall correctly.

Ah, ok I see what you were asking. I wonder if the 800 ohm resistance is for all lengths....

Reading your posts a question came to me. If I have undestood correcly, new drive units don't need a circuit board to work, but the connections (12v) for motor and clutch.
My old Raymarine Autohelm 5000 has passed away, but the drive unit (linear drive Tipe I) is in good condition. Can I use it with one of the modern designs (e.g. Evolution) without modifications?

Yes, with the appropriate drive unit. The ACU-200 is ok for a type 1 pump.

The one I own is the original linear drive unit type I for Autohelm-5000. It has a circuit board inside to translate the signal from the control unit, but the circuit board doesn't work. When I plug the unit to a 12v source it runs fine. So, my question is: in the absence of the circuit board, can it works connected to an ACU-200?

Do you mean you are just powering up the drive motor directly? If the amperage rating is within the course computers range it should work

The drive unit that I currently have has a control board inside connected to the external control unit and two power leads connected to the control board inside the drive.
What I would like to know is whether I can use it with a new autopilot (ie ACU-200) without the circuit board inside, so the drive unit goes directly to the motor and clutch connector of the ACU-200.
