Re: Raymarine E120 Beeps, freezes and Reboots

Geoff,

I think the 120 only outputs NMEA182 data. There are lots of threads on various forums about the 120, and in most cases, once it starts to lose a fix, it needs fixing with a replacement.
As it is a NMEA sensor, it can be replaced with non raymarine unit.

Some discussion here

Here is an example of a replacement GPS sensor, you could most likely find one cheaper.

Re: Raymarine E120 Beeps, freezes and Reboots

Our e125 has lost the heading twice in the last 1000 miles. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it happens again what may be the cause. I'm sure both times were not excessive seas or AIS targets. Both times we were sailing or motoring under autopilot

Re: Raymarine E120 Beeps, freezes and Reboots

Thanks Monte,

As I mentioned, I only have the problem when I get a lot of AIS targets, all a bit of a mystery so far.

Cheers

Not likely the same issue since the e125 and the E120 are completely different units.

Different units but for the C95, with worse problems.

Re: Raymarine E120 Beeps, freezes and Reboots

Hello all,

The new AIS 650 unit that was sent back to Raymarine did have an older version of the firmware installed. It was upgraded to the latest version and sent back to me. I installed and still have the same problem.

I finally got to speak to one of the second level support technicians at Raymarine regarding this issue. This post will be much shorter than my previous posts on this issue.
This issue was a known bug and was meant to be fixed in version 5.69 of the E120 firmware.
It appears that this fix did not make it into the final build of the firmware, or the implemented fix did not fix the issue.
Because the E120 Classic is obsolete there will be no further releases for the E120 classic.

I have the following options.
1. Put up with the reboot and very slow operation in high AIS traffic areas. About 30-50 targets will make it reboot.
2. Change the baud rate as I have been doing to stop the AIS traffic into the E120. This leaves the E120 operating for chart plotter, RADAR etc, but no AIS.

Well that is most of the bad news for the day, the remaining bad news is that because I put in a new thru hull Raymarine Downvision Sonar transducer on my last haul out and if I want to use this transducer I have to remain with Raymarine as my chart plotter.

I have been assured that the new E125 series will not have this problem as they have much more memory and processing power.

I hope so. I not hopefully they can fix the bug before the new E125 becomes obsolete.
They are offering a $500 rebate at present, so maybe a new model is coming and this will happen sooner that we expect.

Regards to all.

Read the post above.
You may have to move with the gods and consider Zeus, if honest much better review on this forum, and keep the Ray as a dedicated sonar display.

Re: Raymarine E120 Beeps, freezes and Reboots

Really what would be nice would be to have a simulator that can feed data to any chart plotter in such a way that their suitability for navigation could be assessed. May be the people at OpenCPN could look into that?

Re: Raymarine E120 Beeps, freezes and Reboots

Old thread but thank you thank you

Been pulling my hair out. Two or three times over the last two years my machine has had kittens and started rebooting every five minutes or so.

With this thread I have nailed it to high AIS count areas

Done a system reboot. Got the Drive Capacity right down and now monitoring the situation.

Cheers all
