Raymarine e series data master problem

After updating my c127 and e7 with 14.36, and everything working perfectly for a couple weeks, suddenly in mid passage the e7 asks me to choose a data master and only shows the e7 as an option...and no longer shows the detail of the navionics chart on the c127. My c127 is the designated data master (and where the navionics chart is slotted). I tried everything I could think of, including factory resetting both e7 and c127...and running diagnostics on each, they list each other on the network and show all other devices on the network. The e7 and the c127 only show themselves as a data master option, not the other. Oddly, When following a route (set up on the c127) the e7 shows the next waypoint, but none of the waypoints or routes created since it stopped seeing the c127 as data master, are listed on its "my data".
Tried contacting Raymarine and have received no response, and have found nothing useful searching the Raymarine support & faq pages. Also tried putting the chart in the e7, whereupon it shows the detail, and the c127 has no detail. Weird.
Any suggestions?

Re: Raymarine e series data master problem

I think waypoints are sent via seatalk but chart data by the high speed network. Seems clear that the network is down. What kind of high speed network are you using (nmea2000, seatalkHS, etc.)?

Also, you will get a lot of good help at http://raymarine.ning.com/

I assume seatalk as I have all raymarine equipment networked together (i70, radar, st70, e7, c127, GPS, AIS, etc) installed in 2012...and has been working seamlessly since.

There is more than one kind of seatalk. If you don't know your network config then call whoever installed it and ask them if they can help you. Also, go over to the raymarine tech support web site mentioned above. They will answer if you create and account and submit the questions.

Re: Raymarine e series data master problem

I have had issues before with 2 different series raymarine plotters after an upgrade. though it happened right away. strange it would work for 2 weeks. my only fix was putting the older version back on. as it was obviously something in the new software that didn't like 2 different screens together. (and was pointed out on the raymarine website so they left the older version on the website too)

in your case I would look at the seatalkHS cabling. your seatalk NG is probably still intact.

1. Checked diagnostics and everything is STng.
2. So (in reply to smac999), I should reinstall earlier software on both e and c...? (In the past I had problems when I updated one and not the other).

Make sure both are updated with the most recent software. When you do the s/w updates make sure everything is turn on before you start. Be sure to check the menu's and all settings as the upgrade may be the problem. Like defaulting to something you are not seeing.

Re: Raymarine e series data master problem

Your C127, e7 and radar should all be connected using SeatalkHS if you are sharing the chart and radar.

You C127 looks like it has 2 SeatalkHS connectors, so you probably have the Radar connected to it and then a SeatalkHS cable to the e7. You will also have a SeatalkNG network and as previously mentioned that will be why you see the waypoints.

I'm guessing that you will also not be receiving radar on your e7.

Given that it was originally working after your last upgrade I'd say it's very likely to be an issue with your SeatalkHS. As smac999, said check the connection at the back of each unit and perhaps even try the spray for electrical connections

Re: Raymarine e series data master problem

I am far from being an expert but a long time sufferer of Raymarine problems.
Whenever I asked Raymarine to help troubleshoot they alway recommended to dis and re connect each component and most of the time he problem disappeared or was isolated to a particular input.
I have the e-125 series, dual station and sea talk network.
No harm in going through this exercise.
Good luck

Re: Raymarine e series data master problem

I have e7, autopilot, AIS class B, VHF, radar, wind indictor, etc... i have not mixed a c127 into my Raymarine system but I had an intermittent problem with fluxgate compass and rudder indicator communicating -- I too have Seatalk HS and NG -- disconnecting and reconnecting fixed the problem, at least for the past several months. After that I updated all the O/S and it all worked perfectly.

for now.
I love the wind vane autopilot, autotack, waypoints. digital radar is a beauty. but is was a pain for more than a month to troubleshoot.
