Raymarine E 120 chart plotter

I have an old (1984) ray marine E120 chart plotter and I need to get some new charts for it. The CF card in it now is 2 gb and the new ones at west marine are all 16 gb. This seems to be more than the machine can handle. Any suggestions?

I have an E80, same as an E120 except smaller screen. I have new Navionics 16GB CF cards in it working ok. I updated the plotter to the last version of software first of course.

One note.. The E80/E120 series of MFDs from Raymarine were released in 2005. So I am not sure what you mean with the 1984 date.

Re: Raymarine E 120 chart plotter

I have an E120 in which I installed the latest Navionics charts last year. It is essential to ensure the plotter is updated to the latest firmware before using new charts. With the older firmware it kept crashing repeatedly, sometimes every few minutes, and not necessarily at convenient moments. I tried 3 different CF cards for downloading and installing the firmware update and none worked. I ended up buying a pre-loaded firmware update card for $50 and it worked just like the manual says. After that, no more crashing. Sorry, I don't have a link to where I bought the card, but probably searching for E120 firmware update would find it. Or call RayMarine.

You can use the Navionics 16 GB card, but not with the full data set. When I received the card I registered it with Navionics online. To use it in the E120 I had to delete all the data and then select a smaller chart region to download. It's not tiny, but the full card has more data than the E120 can handle. I think I loaded from Norfolk to Nova Scotia. You can delete the data and select a new region any time you want, but you need available Internet bandwidth to download 1-2 GB.

NOOOOO

I used my time machine to drop one of those back in 1984 in hopes that someone would find it and keep Raymarine from taking over the world in 2048. It seems I have failed.
