Raymarine Classic E80 but no DSC displayed

I have a ICOM M422 VHF wired (nema183) to my E80 and the VHF is MMSI registered. The DSC ,GPS position etc work well. I was under the impression that the incoming DSC calls and Buddy Lists positions would show up on the E80 display. In the E80 menu I have DSC turned on. Am I expecting too much from this aging system?

Dave, Thanks. I have v552. I didn't think about that but just checked and saw that a newer v559 is out. That may fix it.

Re: Raymarine Classic E80 but no DSC displayed

do you have both the tx and rx lines connected? in most installs only the tx pair from plotter to rx pair on radio gets connected.

I'm not sure what should show up on the plotter though. I've never seen dsc stuff show up on any plotter. I think dsc distress calls will show up. but you can't test that...

I have both input and output wires connected so that both the radio and E80 will transmit and receive. At the ICOM support site there is information on how to wire it. They recommend connecting that way. One of the RM support guys at a boat show also recommended wiring that way.

Re: Raymarine Classic E80 but no DSC displayed

Ive been thinking back to my E series days. I do not believe that DSC information was ever displayed on E Series. I don't believe there is any standard on NMEA 0183 to do so and I see no reference to DSC even in Ray manuals right up to the 2013 version .

Yeah, I checked the E120/80 manual. That is what got me started on this. The manual, in the custom set menu, Has a choice to turn on or off DSC messages. I don't know what "details" means in the following quote from the manual.

"DSC Message - When set to ON, details of distress DSC messages are displayed on screen"
