Hi everyone,
I've been trying to do the v5.16 update without success. Not sure if it's a problem with the used-but-(supposedly)-reformatted 128MB CF card I got of the net, or something to do with the C70 unit itself. The update appears to have loaded onto the CF card, but when I put it in the C70 (following all the
Raymarine instructions), my attempt to back up data comes up with a FAIL, even though the instructions say it's fine to use the same card for back-up and update. Then, after deciding to not worry about the back-up (all the WP's, routes and tracks were the previous owner's), when I put the card back in to do the update, nothing happens - even though the
Raymarine instructions say the C70 should go straight into update mode via the auto-run component of the v5.16
software. A couple of questions come to mind around this issue:
(1) How come NEW 128MB CF cards seem to be harder to find than unicorn poop?
(2) Raymarine advise to NOT use higher capacity cards for this purpose. Quoting roughly from the instructions, "if you don't have access to a 128MB CF card, then you can use one up to 2G AT YOUR OWN RISK, as some "older" units may have "issues" with bigger cards".
What are the "issues" and what defines an "older" unit? A pity Ray doesn't specify with a pre-date as an indication. Also, I find 128MB to 2GB to be a big jump - will a 256MB or 512MB card cause the same "issues"?
Sorry for the long rant, but are there any ideas out there? As someone else on the forum has noted, Aussie Raymarine customers have to be very self-reliant, resourceful and innovative!
