Re: Raymarine Auto Pilot Issues
Sorry (again), I said I had a 6001, it was actually a ST6000+. Raymarine and the on-line seller of the 6002 reassured me that it would work with the 300 course computer, including all calibration. But some details seem to be worked out.
Thanks

let us know how you get on
I was advised by a raymarine tech, from the factory here in the uk that the ones with smart pilot ie anything after the ST6001 would not work due to software issues.

Re: Raymarine Auto Pilot Issues
I'm afraid Atoll may be correct, that T300 and St6002 are not compatible. Probably OK for normal operation, but maybe not for things like calibration. Your best answer (unless someone shows up on this forum with the same configuration) is to go to the Raymarine forum ( Discussion Forum - Raymarine Technical Forum), although you may still get blown off there since the T300 has been discontinued for more than 10 years (AFAIK).
Good luck,
John

Re: Raymarine Auto Pilot Issues
I recollect my sea trial was a problem until I realized the activation button was press and release, not press and hold. Things went well after that.

Re: Raymarine Auto Pilot Issues
I talked with Raymarine Tech. They were very helpful, I'll pass along what I found out.
The 6002 control head is fully compatible with the 300 vintage course computers. But the Calibration sequence, key combinations, etc. is a bit different, and not in any book or other published guide.
Press and hold STBY, for maybe 2 to 3 seconds. A message will come up, "DISPLAY CAL". You're now in what I'd call the root menu. Here, by pressing DISP, you can toggle through this page, one that reads "COMPASS CAL", and one that reads "DEALER CAL".
When you have up the one that seems to be what you want, press "AUTO", and then quickly after, the -1 and +1 keys, simultaneously. You'll now be able to page though the next level of pages, by pressing briefly "DISP". You can make adjustments to the various settings by pressing the +1 and -1 keys.
To back up, saving changes, and eventually exit, keep pressing "STBY".
I think this is approximately correct
Thank
Brian

Re: Raymarine Auto Pilot Issues
I just had a failure with my ST6001+ unit. It shows a NO PILOT error and STLK FAIL. After some research I think the control unit is gone. I'm looking at replacing it with a 6002 unit. It needs to be compatible with my 300 course computer. It sounds like briblack has it figured out. I will try to follow the calibration methods once I source a unit and get it connected. Thanks for the info - there are so many conflicting opinions floating around on the forums about the compatibility of the 6001 and 6002 units.

Re: Raymarine Auto Pilot Issues
It's still working fine for us. I sourced the 6002 through e-bay. I got one NIB, a bit expensive. But hey, it is a boat. A big thanks to Lee, at Raymarine tech support, for getting me through it.

Re: Raymarine Auto Pilot Issues
We just went through much of this process with our 300 and 7000. You can buy an LCD replacement screen on fleabay for about $150. A good 300 is about $500. Raymarine tech support thought it might be the head unit, but it might not be. So instead of risking throwing $1000 at it, we bit the bullet and bought a whole new autopilot...
