The first part of the question has been answered clearly. You must use the
AIS antenna.
The other question about using the
AIS GPS info is yes you can... But if there is no
Raymarine chartplotter in the system you need to know a trick!! Obviously
Raymarine dont want your AIS transceiver giving a
Garmin plotter info so the way around it is to use
NMEA 1083 and drop the Bund rate on ProAIS2 to the lowest level, then it works. I needed to do that to get the
GPS into the Standard Horizon
VHF radio.
