Re: Raymarine AIS installation

The first part of the question has been answered clearly. You must use the AIS antenna.

The other question about using the AIS GPS info is yes you can... But if there is no Raymarine chartplotter in the system you need to know a trick!! Obviously Raymarine dont want your AIS transceiver giving a Garmin plotter info so the way around it is to use NMEA 1083 and drop the Bund rate on ProAIS2 to the lowest level, then it works. I needed to do that to get the GPS into the Standard Horizon VHF radio.

Why do people buy equipment from a company when they believe the company is obviously trying to prevent its normal use for the companies benefit, not the users?

It shows it in the user manual for the 650. The "obviously" is just an opinion.
It was the difficult concept in my installation. All I wanted was GPS on the VHF. But once worked around its good

Clownfish, how have you found the GME AIS. I am considering the GME AIST120 transciever with the AISS120 splitter. Hooked to a Raymarine a75 MFD.

Thanks for any feedback.

Yes Class B, TDMA systems , require an integral GPS. However I see no restriction preventing that GOS output from being used else where as well. Equally if the On-board GPS fails, the spec allows a degradation etc
