Ray radar options

My 4kw 24" analogue radar is apparently dead. The way I see it there are a few options.
1. try and repair it for $500 ish
2. buy a used working replacement for $500-700
3. buy a new D/HD radar.

The question on the new system is a bit more complicated as well...
is D vs HD and 18vs 24"

is it really worth all the cash to go up to a 24" hd? $2000

Budget minded decisions as most of us have in the real world.

The rest of my system is Raymarine. I have a 120E Classic so I can use the new radars natively. Alternatively the fix or a working old one is a simple plug and play!

Re: Ray radar options

FWIW i was in the exact same situation as yours and I opted for the digital radome- at the time it was a much more economical solution vs the HD one, prices may have come down on HD since I don't know. On the other hand, if you can fix the analogue for $500 (that solution was not available to me) and be sure you'll get a few more years of service life out of it, then my recommendation would be to go for it.

Everything else being equal, you will get more resolution and or range out of a bigger antenna, but do you need it?

Re: Ray radar options

I have a used but perfectly working replacement if you are interested. It's listed on eBay but I will sell it to a fellow CF member for a reasonable offer...pm me if interested. I have a 24" 4 kW analog Raymarine unit with cable and manual.
