Ray marine autopilot

I have the ray marine autopilot on a 2011 beneteau sense 50.
At of nowhere it decided to just stop yesterday.

I checked the voltage on to the steering motor. It’s 11.65 Volts. When I press the 10- it goes to like 6.6. And when I press 10+ nothing changes.

Anyone know where to start trouble shooting this?

Re: Ray marine autopilot

No telling how the electronics are responding to the low voltage. I'd get the battery and the connections (corrosion may be limiting current) back in shape before even worrying about the possibility of an electronic failure. Good luck with it.

Re: Ray marine autopilot

Raymarine uses pulse width modulation to control the speed of the AP motor. Depending on the meter and some other parameters what you are seeing might be normal. First check the input voltage at the AP power unit. When looking at the input and motor voltage try using the auto tack commands or give it 30 or 40 degrees of commanded movement.

Some of the units only end up with two different motor speeds, fast and half ast (+-12 volts and +-6 volts). Also check for clutch voltage. If you have 12 volts on the motor drive terminals the motor should be running.

Sounds like something went bad in the autopilot core pack. Depending what model autopilot, it may or may not still be repairable by Raymarine.
