Ray Marine 4000+ switches to standby

Purchased a 30 foot freedom in May 2015. The 4000+ has not worked since purchase. I have determined it does work in the slip, with the battery charger on and the battery voltage at 13+ volts. When battery charger is off and battery voltage falls to 12.4 volts the system will switch to standby immediately after giving a pulse to the drive motor. It does not matter if the wheel drive is engaged or not, same result. No low battery message, and no measurements below 12 volts as measured near the supply power into the control head.
Suggestions?

Re: Ray Marine 4000+ switches to standby

this usually happens because there is an excessive voltage drop to the control head. Check your wiring for a bad connection. Since the voltage drop is short term it does not trigger the low voltage indication.

Thanks Mate!

The first step I took supports your thought. I used heavy cables combined with a short pig tail wired directly from one battery to the control head and the auto helm worked fine with the charger off. Next step is to explore behind the mail electrical panel for a poor connection on the breaker feeding the auto helm.
