Raspberry pi with marine control server (MCS)

I would like to know what you guys are using the nmea0183, 1 wire, and inputs 1-4 for? I can’t decide if I should use the 1-4 inputs for my seatalk1 instruments or use the nmea0183 serial connections. Also what are you guys using for wiring connections? M8,M12 canbus or something different? Thank you for your time, total newby just trying to build a simple system.
