Radar with NMEA2000?

Hi folks,

I was wondering about which radar unit to use with Zeus2 plotter? The boat has NMEA2000 network in which all data sources are installed (log, depth, wind, gps/compass, plotter) and after checking out briefly on radars it seems that majority is lacking NMEA2000.

Anyone with information of modern radar units with n2k?

Thanks,

Harri

Re: Radar with NMEA2000?

Radar images are not transmitted over N2K. N2K is not fast enough for imaging. All current manufacturers use a proprietary scheme, often over ethernet with some new ones over WiFi.

you need the BNG radar with Ethernet cable. (possibly simrad or lowrance, they are the same brand)

Welcome to the forum, Harri.

We have Zeus T8 chart plotters and the B&G 4G RADAR installed.

As mentioned by others, the RADAR uses ethernet for the network connection because N2k would not be fast enough [among other things...]

I'm going to guess your goal is to share the RADAR image with more than your chart plotter?

If so, we share RADAR images using a GoFree Wifi device making it available on iOS and Android devices [a view only or interactive image of the Zeus screen.]

Our next project is to connect a laptop to the B&G ethernet network to feed RADAR info to OpenCPN.

In case this is helpful.

Cheers! Bill
