Radar posts. Carbon fiber?

I am thinking about installing a radar post where I would mount a KVH 3v Tracphone dome, a removable dingy engine lifting arm, stern nav light and flood light. My radar is already mounted on the mast so I wasn't anxious to spend the money to relocate it to the post.

In lieu of using aluminum or SS for the post should I consider making the post out of carbon fiber?

What are the downsides and advantages?
Is it paintable and easy to drill and cut access ports?

Any thoughts on the subject is appreciated.

Re: Radar posts. Carbon fiber?

A few years ago, durring some very high winds that swept through the San Francisco Bay area, I was at anchor in Richardson Bay.
My 4-winds generator came lose from it strap and went into working mode.. the wind was so high it bent the aluminum pole at about 30 degrees..
The new post would have cost over 100 with the shipping out here so I took it upon myself to fix it.. streightened the pole and wrapped it in 4 layers of carbon fiber, (4 inch in a sprial wrap)... painted it and its still out there today, stronger, and now absorbs the vibration fron the generator changing direction..
so yes carbon fiber will work and it can be painted,

What on earth makes you think CF is needed?
