Re: Questions re: B&G Zeus integration w/ Ipad app
Reading this thread has given me hope.
I’m trying to get an iPad Air 4 to connect to a B&G Zeus 3S. The iPad finds and joins the Zeus hotspot and the Link app shows the two as connected, but when I press ‘Remote Control’ I get an error message, ‘There is a problem connecting to the device. This device may not support remote viewing, or may need to be restarted.’
There is nothing to see on the Zeus’ Remote Controllers screen.
I’ve tried everything. One difficulty is, I can’t tell which device that error message is talking about. Both the Zeus and the iPad are devices! Subject matter experts should never be left on their own to write user manuals.
Does anyone have any clues? This should be easy!

Re: Questions re: B&G Zeus integration w/ Ipad app
The issue sounds like a software incompatibility. I got this when I updated the software on the Zeus2 and did not update the iPad App.
Make certain you have the latest iOS, the latest B&G app, and the latest Zeus software the problem should go away.
Note you will not be able to control the autopilot from the iPad.

That makes it sound like a s/w issue with the Zeus3. Have you updated the s/w on the Zeus?
If you read the information on the Link App in the App Store, you'll note that it suggests a sofware update may be required on your display.

Re: Questions re: B&G Zeus integration w/ Ipad app
I have a five year old iPad. It connect to the Zeus 3 and it will display the chart plotter. But it is unusable since the image keeps stretching, flickering, breaking up, etc. I can control the chart plotter, but with the breakups half of the commands don't go through.
Sounds like a new iPad may not help.

There was a s/w update for the Zeus3s on October 27. Here's a link.

Some of the older iPads don't have the processing power to handle the program.
The other possibility is a poor wifi connection.

Re: Questions re: B&G Zeus integration w/ Ipad app
Thanks for these comments. Yes, I have the latest versions of all relevant software. Still not working. It’s seems I’m not alone in having trouble with a new iPad and the latest Zeus software.
I’ll place a call to Navico support and see if they’re aware.

Re: Questions re: B&G Zeus integration w/ Ipad app
I’ve been fighting iPad/phone incompatibly since the Zeus software update of 4 months ago. Idevice will display a small image of the Zeus screen that is locked in portrait mode-pretty much unusable. I’ve spoken with b/g tech support and they can offer a older version of Zeus software until they come up with a solution.

Thanks for this Steve. Good to know. I’m not even getting the frozen Zeus screen. Just an error message, saying:
‘There is a problem connecting to the device. This device may not support remote viewing, or may need to be restarted.’

This has been so flaky on my Vulcan that I gave up. For me it will work one time and require plotter restart every time you want this again.
While it works, it is slow and awkward, not at all an improvement for adding waypoints over doing it on the plotter itself or using the memory card.
I have found memory card slot extension cords for panel mount but did not pursue that yet. I now create routes on my iPad using iSailor, then punch coordinates into the plotter for the current waypoint. If that is a common waypoint from a nautical chart, I name it accordingly and leave it there for re-use.

Yeah, it's a shame, this worked really well for almost 3 years!

Re: Questions re: B&G Zeus integration w/ Ipad app
Good news. Today I managed to hook up my iPhone 10 and iPad Air 4th Gen to my B&G Zeus3S 12” chartplotter and Remote Control it.
It took a lot of mucking around. In the end it seems there were a couple of key steps:
- install the most recent update of the Link app from the App Store.
- install and use the B&G app from the App Store to create an account with B&G and then register the chartplotter. This app can be hard to find on the App Store. I went to the B&G website and used a QR code to access the app.
Hint - once the chartplotter is registered close the B&G app and use the new Link app for connecting Apple devices. First, connect these to the chartplotter’s WIFI hotspot. Then reboot the Link app and initiate Remote Control.
At first I was only able to view the Chart screen, not control it. A message appeared saying that for safety reasons Remote Control was not enabled. However after reconnecting a few times this message no longer appeared and I had full control. Go figure.
Anyway, it now works. :-)
