Putting a name on a channel on an Icom 802

I've got one of the Icom M802 SSBs. A friend and I chat on a particular frequency regularly. The Icom has 160 frequencies that you can change the name of but we use a frequency that isn't on the list. I'd like to set up a set frequency with a name attached so that I can easily dial in the frequency each night and have a particular name to id the it.
Anyone know how or if this can be done?

From page #14 of the M-802 Manual:

  • Select the desired channel to be programmed.
  • Push [FREQ/CH] to select channel indication mode, if desired.
  • Push [F] then [FREQ/CH].The 1st character for the channel names blinks.
  • Rotate [CH] selector to select the character for channel names.See the table below for available characters.
  • Push the keypad several times to enter that character.
  • Repeat steps r and t to enter the channel name.
  • Push [ENT] to program the channel name.
There is a great book out by Marti Brown called "ICOM 802 for IdiYachts" that is better written than the manual.

If you don't have the manual you can download it from the Icom website. Chuck

The optimum word there is "Channel". I'm not using one of their specified "channel" frequencies. I'm using a different frequency that's not one of their channels.

Pick one of the 160 user-programmable channels that are not in use or one you don't use and set the transmit/receive frequencies using the TX and RX keys. Add a description as described in the post above and then save the changes by pressing the ENT button for 1 second.

Re: Putting a name on a channel on an Icom 802

From what I've gathered, it's not possible to select a particular frequency(non channel frequency) and put a name to it and create my own channel?

Re: Putting a name on a channel on an Icom 802

Docksides site did the job. I changed one of the channels names as well as it's frequency. I email ICOM about it and they said it couldn't be done. I could change the name but not the frequency it was set to.
That's why I keep coming back to this forum. Someone out there knows everything.
Thanks for the help.
