Problem Registering a Garmin GMI 20

To register a Garmin GMI 20 the Garmin site directs you to an app called Garmin Express. When you go to the app, it wants you to plug your unit in, which is not possible with the GMI 20. After trying this many times, I called Garmin and found our that the way to register units that don't plug in is register them through the Aviation section. If you click on Aviation they ask for your serial number and once provided you are registered.
It would seem that Garmin would have this figured out so customers don't waist time.
