Power in seatalk ng

Hi all,

I’m a newbie to seatalkng. I have a Raymarine es-78 that I’m trying to connect to a Raymarine microtalk wireless gateway. I’ve connected a seatalk ng cable from the es-78 directly to the micro talk. However, I’m not seeing any wireless connections (wind etc).

Do I need a separate power supply to power this seatalkng backbone? I figure the Es-78 would output power to the microtalk via the cable.

Any help appreciated.

And now for my follow up question - if it does need power, do I just splice into the seatalkng wire and feed 12v into the power wires?

Seatalk NG usually needs a separate power cable to supply the network ... Typically you plug in one of the red Seatalk NG cables and connect it to your panel.

You need a seatalk ng starter kit

Not only do you need power you need the terminators as well.

Thank you smac999. My saga here with this wind indicator has been very frustrating. Too much to type out.

I have successfully spliced 12v into my seatalk cable. I have 12v at the micro talk and 12v at the ES78. Do I really need to purchase this for the terminators? Or is there a way to create my own “terminators”?

You can’t connect two white SeaTalkNG cables together and get it to work. You need a blue backbone in there. If in close proximity get a 5-way block, two blue terminators, two white device cables and a red power cable. The terminators go in the outboard two blue slots - the rest go to whiteconnectors. Connect the power via a 3A fuse to power and ground. The only RM device that can power the buss is a ACU200.

Assuming you already have one white device cable the kit has all you’ll need.
