I'm new here, and I came upon this forum while searching for alternative autopilot
systems for our Albin 27 trailer-able trawler
. As is, the boat
is equipped with a Teleflex cable steering
system to the rudder
, I'm happy with it, and I am not interested in converting to a hydraulic unit.
Octopus makes a high quality powered cable steering
unit that will replace the manual head
, but it needs a compass
, steering brain, and a motor
control to work
. My research
into that led me here where I first heard about the Pypilot components. This boat
is a low speed, displacement
cruiser, and the drive draws quite low power
(1.5A to 5A max) to operate, so it seems like the Pypilot should be able to handle it.
Does anyone here have any idea why this would not work
? I'd appreciate any opinions as to whether this is a reasonable idea, thanks.
