No depth reading on Raymarine C120 chart plotter

I have a Raymarine C 120 chartplotter with networked depth, radar, fishfinder, speed, auto pilot. My depth guage is reading blank. I put in a new/used DMS and got it to work for a short time, but now its dead again. Raymarine no longer supports this equipment as most of you know. I do not want to by all new electronics, so am thinking about changing the ST60 depth/speed display to a stand alone depth display with an inside mounted transducer, so I don't have to haul out. Has anyone done this? Is it a bad idea or an easier fix? What equipment can you recommend?

Do you have an independent depth display, like ST50 or i50? How’s your depth transducer networked?

I do have a ST60 display for depth and speed. I don't care about speed display because I get SOG on the chartplotter. Everything is networked via Sea Talk 1083.

Re: No depth reading on Raymarine C120 chart plotter

Are you seeing depth on ST60 then?

If yes, there’s a problem with network connection.

If no, there could be a problem with the transducer or it’s cable.

Re: No depth reading on Raymarine C120 chart plotter

No depth readings on ST60 or chart plotter. I'm guessing it's a bad transducer, but I don't want to haul out, replace it and find it's something else. I replaced the DSM already. Can someone tell me what the DSM does? I'm strongly leaning toward installing an internal transducer and hooking to the ST 60 if possible or a stand a stand alone display. Any one have experience with doing that?

Re: No depth reading on Raymarine C120 chart plotter

I don’t have any experience with DSM, and if cable connections from the transducer to the unit are intact and the display turns on then the fault may be the transducer as you suspect.

I know for sure than in-hull transducers work, a couple of friends have them (I don’t), do a search on CF and you will find relevant threads.

Once you get a new transducer a quick test would be to hang it in the water from the side and connect it to your ST60, if you see depth you have just confirmed your suspicion.
