I have used NMEA0183 wind data that a Vesperxb8000 converted from An n2k garmin GWS10.
Also depth and speed through water from a garmin triducer.

I've been looking at connecting an Actisense NGW-1-ISO between the N2K network and the NMEA 0183 input to the AP course computer - according to the documentation, the course computer should take 0183 data and route to the Seatalk 1 network.
Any other options to consider other than the Actisense?
Attached is a drawing of my anticipated layout, all constructive feedback is welcome...

I'am using a Raspberry Pi with SignalK. SignalK/canboat converts NMEA2K to NMEA183 to SignalK. Or from NMEA183 to NMEA2K and you can also use the instruments in SignalK.
You only need the NGT-1 from Actisense. But this is expensive.
I'am using the small Canable can-usb board which is available for arount $ 35,-.
Works very well in combination with the chartplotter software.
There is also an optical isolated version available.

I concur with ChrisseH. It is a great product that incorporates NEMA2000/0183/seatalk with wifi/Ethernet/usb output options.
Great setup support also.

Here's the list of NMEA 0183 translations that the XB-8000 does support, both receive and transmit. I'm more interested in the transmit for my purposes.

I can, and will, use the 0183 output from the Vesper to provide GPS position to my M802 SSB and VHF for DSC purposes.

You got it the wrong way around. When you have depth on nmea2000, it will convert that to nmea0183. I’m sure because I do that. Same for STW and wind.

This image seems to say it does wind...

You may well be right, the document is a little confusing. Best way is to wire it up and see what happens. I'll take the NMEA 0183 output from the Vesper (at 4800 baud, with no AIS data), and connect to the input on the ST-6000. If all goes well I'll have all the relevant data transmitted onto the SeaTalk bus by the autopilot.
I will be replacing the autopilot in the not too distant future, as I have an almost-new Garmin Reactor AP salvaged from a boat I lost in a collision last September. At that point I'll need something else to get NMEA data onto the SeaTalk bus, or replace the old ST60+ cockpit displays too...

Re: NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183
Hi, I have an ST4000+ with wheel drive and last year I made a projet with Arduino MCU to be able to control it with a Nextion display attached to it. One thing was missing is to be able to have a chart on the display. Last month I discover OpenCPN software, I did installed on a tablet Android and wow what a nice piece of software. So then for this winter I just decide to go this way and use my tablet purely Wifi and Bluetooth to control everything. So I could carry the tablet anywhere on the boat plus the fact that I have 6 buttons RF unit so I can sit in the front and control my ST, +-1 10, Auto, Standby, Etc..
Tablet around $150.00, Arduino box with all kind of sensors for $25.00, Seatalk conversion $5.00. See links here to find different reference to design the Seatalk conversion.
I would like to insert the image of my project here but for some reason it doesn't work unless somebody tell me how.

Re: NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183
I believe the ST1toSTNG converter from raymarine is a good and cost effective solution, I have one, it just works. FWIW, I also have a XB8000 that converts STNG to 0183overWifi for OpenCPN on a PC, you may have two problems with this solution:
1. At least True Wind & Rudder are not transmitted. Everything else I need works.
2. Mine will stop transmitting after about 24hours and need a complete reset
3. Vesper knows about 1. and does .. nothing. Not sure they know about 2.

Re: NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183
Vesper is coming out with a new unit called Cortex. I saw it at the Annapolis Boat Show. It is supposed to be out in January. It provides all the functions of the XB-8000 and more. It may do additional conversions for wind etc.
I don't know this, but perhaps someone else has experience here; wouldn't OpenPlotter handle the cross network communication as well? It sounds like you need to add a box either way. A Pi running OP would provide a lot of backup.
