New IPad2

OK, I just ordered a new IPad2 64GB 3/4G Verizon unit, with the idea that it will be my backup chartplotter (we use a Northstar M80, and have a spare on board, but I convinced the admiral this is an important new backup).

I have read, occasionally and without true study and analysis, various posts regarding these units and navigation software. I went with the IPad2 for cost primarily.

So, what nav software to download when it arrives? Our cruising grounds in the last 5 years have been the US east coast and Bahamas, and now Caribbean (we are in Grenada now). Although we do mention it occasionally, there are no serious plans to circumnavigate or to cross to the Med.

Suggestions please, and thanks in advance.

I use navionics good choice going with the 3G model. Although apple will not tell you the 3G 4G models have a built in stand alone GPS so you can use off shore. You do not have to activate with Verizon to use this. I use it in wifi zone and have never activated verizon
