Net frequencies

Hi all...

I don't suppose anyone has a simple list of nets and frequencies for an Atlantic crossing from Canaries to Caribbean ?

The short answer to your questions are:
1) there is a thread here, directly on-point, with LOTS of direct, accurate info...and direct answers...

2) In addition, here is some brief info/answers:
a) there currently are no official, open-to-all, Atlantic Crossing Nets operating...(there used to be, but not anymore...), except for the short-range and/or closed-to-rally-participant nets...

b) there is NO reason that you (or anyone) couldn't start and organize your own...

c) there are some "rally nets", organized by the various rallies....and while they seem to think they must guard their frequencies as a secret, but I have those freqs (see below)

d) As for "best" / "most useful" frequencies:
---- if you do not require/desire full coverage across the entire Atlantic and/or coverage to/from land to all vessels at sea, you're best bet is going to be 8mhz....
try 8.294mhz / 8294khz / 8A / 8-1....
---- if you DO desire/require full coverage across the entire Atlantic and/or coverage to/from shore stations (or those still in port) to all vessels at sea, your best bet is going to be 12mhz....
try 12.359mhz / 12359khz / 12C / 12-1...

e) the various rallies and other groups (such as the ARC) tend to want to keep their freqs secret (why, I don't know)...but, they also tend to only wish to connect with only vessels in "close proximity" (within a few hundred miles), and as such they tend to use the lower freqs of 4mhz and 6mhz...
The OCC welcomes everyone to their nets, and openly publish their freqs/times, but here again they tend to be only good for a few hundred miles...using 4mhz channels, such as 4045khz...
{Various rallies have used 4045 and 4054 and 6224, 6227, and 6516 as their primary channels....as well as mistakenly used 6221 and 6212, and worse the 6mhz international GMDSS Safety and Calling channel of 6215khz...}

If you have decent internet connection (can watch standard definition Youtube videos), and have an hour or so....watch these videos and you WILL learn a LOT...
(and once you have a radio in front of you, you'll already know quite a bit...and then you can re-watch them, with the radio in front of you, and you'll be proficient enough for most of the basic marine SSB operations!!)
