Navionics card use on laptop

I have a ray E7 with Navionics card.

I never have time to mess around much with E7 when I am at the boat because we just want to sail with the time we have and the boat is an hour away.

But I do have time while away from the boat, so what I want to do is plug my card into laptop and mess around putting in waypoints, plotting courses, etc so things are set up ahead of time.

What do I need to load onto laptop to be able to do this? I only have the Navionics program for updating my card.

Re: Navionics card use on laptop

Ok, no wifi or internet on the boat, so at home I used my laptop and Navionics account online to make a route, name and saved it.

Now how does it wind up on my card so it shows up on my plotter?

Re: Navionics card use on laptop

I guess no one uses Navionics in this way.

Re: Navionics card use on laptop

Disclaimer: I don't have an e7, and don't use Navionics for my navigation. That said...

You might have a simpler time exporting the route to a gpx file, copying that file to any random card, and having the plotter import the route from the card (Home -> My Data -> Import/export). GPX is a simple, non-proprietary format that you can use with many different programs.

Note: If your plotter supports wifi (I'm not referring to a full internet connection here, just a local network) you might also experiment with pairing a phone/tablet with it as that opens another possible avenue for syncing. There's a description of how one might go about that here. But, that seems a but complicated when all Navionics is doing is putting a fancy wrapper complete with a "did he pay up on his subscription" check over a simple file copy operation.
