NASA Electromagnetic Speed Log

Hi there,
I'm considering NASA's EL-3 electromagnetic speed log. Their literature says it will talk to my Raymarine network. I'm tired of cleaning or always removing my little paddle wheel transducer.

Does anyone here have any experience with this NASA transducer?

Re: NASA Electromagnetic Speed Log

Clipper Electromagnetic 2 Speed Log data is transmitted in NMEA 0183 [VHW & VLW] - see the Manual*, beginning page 4.
Clipper Duet with Electromagnetic 3 Log transducer control box converts the sensor signal to a pulse output to connect to the Clipper Duet display. There’s a procedure to connect to a Raymarine ST-60 Log Display [in manual*].

Re: NASA Electromagnetic Speed Log

Would be interesting if they make an NMEA2000 compatible version, ST60 stuff is pretty legacy these days.

Re: NASA Electromagnetic Speed Log

A converter will convert ST60 signal format to N2K.

Re: NASA Electromagnetic Speed Log

From their manual:
It should be internally accessible for cleaning. Maybe at best it is at least easier to clean than the paddle wheel.
