I just installed a brand-new
B&G (Simrad) NAIS 500 Class-B
AIS transceiver after the last one fried. It's connected to a NSPL 400
VHF antenna splitter. This configuration worked great with the old unit. Everything checks out with the new unit, and it receives
AIS messages, but it has yet to transmit. When I run the system configurator, it shows the unit to be waiting for a
GPS fix. The dedicated
GPS antenna is fine and connected, and the NAIS 500 appears to see satellites. But it won't get a fix.
I tried cycling
power a few times. Every once in a while the old unit would stop transmitting for the same reason, and that would resolve it, but not this time.
Note that I installed it on a very cloudy / rainy day. Is it possible that this is the reason? The GPS antenna is one of those deck-mounted mushrooms (provided with the NAIS 500).
