Re: My first post: Advice on Basic Electronics.

Luigi,
You're very welcome!

1) As for the autopilot....
You mentioned it "works great", and since island hopping thru the Caribbean, you're not likely to be making long passages where hand-steering would place you/your crew into serious fatigue, as long as it works - don't replace it!

No need at all for anyone to ever "interface" their autopilot to anything except their own brain and fingers...

2) As for the depth sounder....almost all transducers are aimar and typically they either work, or they don't....not much "in-between"....
So, if you're having depth reading reliability issues, it could be almost anything from marine growth on the transducer - to a loose / corroded connection - to something amiss with the B&G unit (which I am NOT familiar with), etc....
But, if you're hauling-out for any other work (bottom paint, etc.), then replacing the transducer and wiring is a pretty simple / couple hour job, so why not do it....but, look at some other causes first..

I hope this helps clarify...

Re: My first post: Advice on Basic Electronics.

Thanks John. Will check the wiring at my next trip home.
PS- I gave away all my smart phones 4 years ago.
