Mounting B&G Speed Depth Temp Sensor.

Hi folks,
I have a new B&G multisensor. My problem is the hull of my boat is to round to mount the sensor in a vertical plane. Can the sensor be mounted at an angle?I've been told up to 30 degrees from vertical is ok. This seems to be extreme. I can't find any info on the B&G website.

30 deg is a lot. Airmar suggest no more than 10 deg.

Most vessels have some deadrise angle at the mounting location.
If the transducer is mounted directly to the hull, the sound beam will be tilted to the side at the same angle as the deadrise.
A fairing is strongly recommended if the deadrise angle exceeds 10°.

30 is a lot. If you are willing to go with separate speed and depth transducers, they sell a depth transducer with a tilted element that will compensate for your dead rise. Your speed shouldn't be a problem.

Our old depth transducer was mounted on a 20* dead rise and we would have problems with it not giving depth readings in rough water and not seeing as deep as the specs allow. The not seeing as deep was never an issue, but the rough water was - we would be in narrow channels with boat wakes and disturbed water that would prevent the depth from working properly.

Our new tilted element sounder works perfectly.

HI folks,
The sensor housing is about 3 inches in length way to short for the amount of dead rise in my main hull. A fairing block is not a viable option. I will see if I can find a tilted transducer. If push comes to shove I can use the new speed sensor and leave the old depth/ fish finder in place. Just have to put up with an additional hole in the boat.

The tilted transducers are way too expensive for me. The eagle depth fish finder works fine I will just use that as stated in my previous post. the paddle wheel doesn't care what angle its at as long as it faces forward.
