Monitor intensity

I was coming into a very dark creek last night at about 10:30pm trying to avoid 20-25 knot onshore winds at an exposed anchorage.

This was a very narrow creek so coming in in total darkness was a concern.

The first two channel markers had lights, the other 6 did not.

I really needed my monitor and OpenCPN for help so I moved my laptop out into the cockpit area.

Problem was it was too bright and blinding my night vision.

Luckily I knew about where the monitor intensity adjustment keys were.

Make sure you do also if you think this could happen to you.

Might not sound like a big deal but when the channel is narrow you need to know where you are and not be blinded by a bright monitor.

I did have a handheld spot light that helped me see the markers as I got close to them.

Was very happy when I could finally anchor.

The good new was that after I shut most everything down the stars were awesome and I could see the Milky Way......

Re: Monitor intensity

The good new was that once I got into the creek and in protected waters my trusty CQR took care of the rest.

For those cruising the Chesapeake Bay, this is a very beautiful creek but very narrow coming in with spots only 5'-6' deep in the channel
