Most AIS transceivers transmit
NMEA 183 at 38,400 baud.
Most devices such as
VHF transceivers generally support
NMEA 183 at 4800 baud.
Most Displays and MFD's can be configured to support NMEA 183 at either 38,400 or 4800 baud.
If a MFD had multiple NMEA 183
ports, you would configure one at 38,400 and the other at 4800 however in your case with only a
single port you may need to install an inexpensive NMEA 183 multiplexer.
If you find one with also a USB port it could be connected to a PC running some
navigation software, or if you wish to integrate a tablet, look for a multiplexer with
WiFi support.
