Marine Speakers

Does anybody know any good marine speaker systems? Something I could plug my iPod into and listen to music while I cruising. Preferably something that I could run off my boats power, maybe just a socket outlet? And will it use up much battery?

Re: Marine Speakers

Fusion do a radio/Ipod setup that will do what you want. I have four speaker through out the salon and two cockpit speakers that you can switch between. Power consumption is light. The current model advertised here in NZ is MS-CD80 plus two speakers for NZ$300 through Burnsco.

Re: Marine Speakers

I bought this system although haven't installed it yet (part of this haul out -

http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PLMRKT2A-...marine+speaker

I decided I did not need a stereo head as all our music is ipod sourced. Also for our small boat did not need the 4-speaker system. I plan to have a "permanent" connection for the ipod in the cockpit such that we simply plug the iPod in as we prep to get underway.

In a month or two I should have a product review...

Re: Marine Speakers

I went with one of these-

Amazon.com: PolyPlanar MRD80i AM/FM/Sirius Satellite Ready/Internal DMD Dock: Car Electronics

It works with my already existing Sirius antenna, and I also didn't have to replace any of my amps or speakers, just like any other marine stereo system. Works well with my complicated multiple speaker zone set up as well. You can hook up to it in numerous ways, for instance I keep a 64 gigabyte iPod in it with a lot of music on it, but also have an auxiliary cable run so I can plug in anyone elses phone, tablet, or other device quickly and easily as well. The IR remote is great, and it's nice to be able to control the iPod by remote without fiddling with it, though the controls do take some getting used to. All in all a nice unit.
The SD card slot is also a pretty nice option, since if you don't already own a high capacity outdated iPod you want to dedicate to stereo duties you can get a large SD card for much less money and dump all your music onto it instead. After all who buys an iPod instead of an iPhone anymore?
