Marine Network Experts

Any Marine Network Experts out there that could clarify how to do this?

I'm installing a suite of Garmin Electronics consisting of a GMR 18 xHD Radome, a Panoptix LiveScope Sytem with Thru-Hull Mounted Transducer, a GPSMAP 942XS and a gWind Wired Transducer. The GMR, Panoptix System will transmit data to the GPSMAP via the Marine Network. The network cable from the GMR Radome will be connected to a Marine Network Cable Coupler at the base of the mast to facilitate mast removal at some future date. A second network cable will be run from the coupler at the mast to a GMS 10 Network Port Expander.

Should the connector installed on the cable from the radome to the coupler have the wires crossed over as defined in the the documentation and then should the cable from the coupler to the port expander also have the wires crossed over? Where should the crossover take place on the cable from the coupler to the port expander, at the coupler or the port expander?

Should the cable from the GPSMAP to the port expander have the wires crossed over?

Is there any recommendation for a temporary port expander while we wait the 5 to 8 weeks for the Garmin Network Port Expander? Can I plug the radome network cable that plugs into the port expander into another coupler that connects it to the GPSMAP? How should these cables be configured?

TIA!

Re: Marine Network Experts

If you are using the Garmin coupler you need to cross both. As it is Intended to connect 2 Crossed Garmin cables and will cross a 3rd time inside the coupler. So you end up with 1 cross total.

If you are using a non Garmin normal rj45 coupler. Then only 1 cable can be crossed and 1 not.

All single cables must be crossed.

You must use the Garmin hub as it has poe functions to wake up all the devices.
