Lowrance Elite 5C Chart Data Hidden

Gang,

Maybe someone has had this issue. When I'm approaching the 'seam' between two geographic sectors on the electronic chart, I can't see the chart data for the next sector. They only appear when I've just about crossed the line. It's a bit disconcerting, especially when navigating in the dark...although not dangerous because I'm in familiar waters. Is this a common issue, or does it represent some kind of glitch that needs to be looked at? I just bought the boat and don't know how old the device and the charts are.

Any insights would be welcome!

A joyous Chanukah...

Don

Lowrance Elite 5C what charts are you running? If you are running insight which is on the hard drive of the unit, not much you can do.

Thanks for the response! The chart is on a removable ??Mini SD?? card, not inside the unit. Does that help?

Re: Lowrance Elite 5C Chart Data Hidden

I just experienced the same thing three weekends ago. Got pretty hairy. I was rounding East Point of Saturna Island. One of the busiest shipping routes in the Pacific Northwest. Heavy fog, I'm in my 30 foot sailboat with no radar. Listening for fog horns. The point and the reef are not showing on my Lowrance Elite 5 with Navionics Gold charts. I know it is there, I've got my paper chart. I had to DR using the GPS coordinates back onto paper. Tough when your out there by yourself, container ships are rounding the point, narrow, windy, cold and heavy fog. I ended up contacting traffic on channel 11, gave them my details and lat/long so I could get tagged on AIS and they helped me navigate through the ships.

I was just about to contact Lowrance, but thought I'd check here first. Does anyone have an idea on how to deal with this issue?
