Loran Antenna

Can a loran antenna be used for anything else? (Maybe a fishing pole for my son) Not a big deal,but I purchased one a couple of years ago and never quite got around to hooking it up with the loran that came with my boat. A few years back, I was talking to Coast Guard Officer at a trade show and was told Loran was here to stay. Is it compatable with anything else? I do so hate to throw things away. (Ask my wife)

There is the actual antenna, and there is the active electronics in the antenna base. The latter is junk now. The actual antenna whip itself is still perfectly good, and if it has a typical 3/8x24 thread can be used for CB radio, SSB, or other radios if it happens to be the right length and impedance. (You'd want to use an SWR meter to check before transmitting into it.) Or as a flagpole.<G>
If it is an eight foot stick, fiberglass wrapped...it is still worth keeping. All depends on what you've got there.
