IT / Computer Support While On Boat ?

Hi Everyone,

I have a general question about what you guys do when you have an IT question when out cruising? Do you just deal with it or do you call Best Buy or something like that? I am planning on leaving for a few week/month long trip and I unfortunately need to work while I am out. Just want to plan on what to do if something goes wrong and was looking to see what others do.

Thanks!

The old one is fish bait.

Best Buy is the way to go if you have IT questions. What problems are most common with your computer though bud? Also, I'm sure alot of people will chime in and they will probably have someone to call about IT questions. Hope this helps.

Re: IT / Computer Support While On Boat ?

I'd rank BB about dead last, like most of the chain stores. I needed to have a keyboard in an HP laptop replaced "No problem bring it in" and they wanted something well over $250 and most of a week to order the part in and do the job.

I found out I could order the keyboard directly form HP, get it overnight or second day for less than $100 at full retail, and in less than a half hour, replace the old one. And that replacement is finicky if you're not familiar with ribbon cables.

Overpriced, underqualified. BB's Geek Squad eventually may get it right, but they've got a ways to go, and obscene pricing.

I Google the problem out and try to DIY. Otherwise I carry two 'identical' systems so if one packs up I just launch the other one.

Being an IT guy I can't think of one problem that the Geek Squad could possibly help with while you are miles away from shore or country. Well, I guess you could at least give them your CC info over the phone! LOL
