Is BGAN the cheapest for Sat Internet?

I read that Musk's SpaceX Starlink hopes to be operational in the US/Caribbean in time for next Fall's hurricane season. They supposedly have tested at 610 Mb/s to AirForce planes and plans to achieve 1 Gb/s service to consumers. Pricing is unannounced but is supposed to compete with home cable internet service.

Is this going to change everything for cruising boats?

No, can't so whatsapp with a go, glow, phone, etc. Need something faster like Satfi2, FleetOne, Certus, KVH. FleetOne has an unlimited plan for the Americas.

You can do text web using xgate/xweb/go/glow

Glow is just the same data speeds as the Go, just not restricted behind the app. The speed would be too slow still (possibly) for whatsapp.

If they wanted Iridium could easily make the Iridium Go function exactly the same as the Glow, in fact a decent hacker/developer could probably get a whole load of things working on the Go, just look at some of the stuff people are doing with smartphones on the XDA forums. I guess there just isn't the demand by anyone knowledgable.

Don't know the answer to your question, but I'm not investing in anything extra (the Iridium Go is well priced and gets the job done), but once Musk's starlink is up in the next 1-2 years, I may very well put that on the boat.
