Very interesting info, thank you.
I would also add— for those using an
Iridium GO!— that the recent
unlimited data plan offering from SeaTech Systems has an add-on
email option for US$20/month.
I will also interject a couple of other considerations for those using sat phones [i.e., not unlimited data]... I believe UUplus is the only
service that takes advantage of
Iridium's data optimization service RUDICS [this is in addition to any
compression provided by the email
service...] That makes UUplus quite fast [for file transfers] compared to services that use PPP or other IP protocols. [i.e., UUplus saves us enough sat phone time to more than pay for itself each year...]
Another consideration is some services charge for
weather products on a per use basis, so that needs to be factored in as well.
I suspect any of the above listed services will be more than capable of handling a cruiser's sat com needs... One just has to be aware of the trade-offs and realize the per term cost for the email service isn't the only cost...
I try to stay on top of these considerations on our
Sat Comms page [which began as notes to myself...] if you are interested in more details...
Cheers! Bill
