iPad overheating

I have been out for a few weeks and using my iPad with INAVX. The sailing is in the Caribbean. One difficulty was that during the day, with the iPad in a waterproof case, it would tend to overheat and shutdown. Has anyone else had this problem and what have you done to eliminate the iPad from overheating?

Of course use something else is an answer, although I like the iPad so want to solve the problem with it. At night all works great.

Re: iPad overheating

We use the life proof case and only have the issue if we leave it sitting in direct sunlight.

Ditto here too.
We live and sail aorund Singapore (tropics) and have had the ipad 3 overhead a nr of times while in a water proof case. I shoved it into the fridge for a quick cool down then back to navigating.

Re: iPad overheating

Anything you do will require an Amp draw from your finite power supply. A small travel cooler could be dismantled and reconfigured to cool the water tight case. Add a thermal switch to the power supply wire to a relay for power, game on. 😜

Re: iPad overheating

I mainly have the iPad overheating problem if the iPad is in direct sun.
Keeping it shaded also allows the screen brightness to be reduced which reduces the heat the iPad generates itself.
