Re: iPad or iPhone sonar or depth

For water depth and temperature you could use a Cruz Pro NMEA-0183 transducer and a DigitalYacht WLN10 to broadcast the NMEA-0183 sentences over WiFi to iPhone/iPad.

Re: iPad or iPhone sonar or depth

Does this work well as the only electronic sonar on board?

Is it as reliable as buying a GPS/sonar unit for $450?

We anchor out about 50 nights a year.

Any idea on prices?

Thanks!

Look into SONARPHONE, it's a wifi transducer.

Also have a look at my NTWB1 NMEA to WiFi Bridge to get your NMEA 0183 data to your iPhone, iPad or other WiFi device.

Re: iPad or iPhone sonar or depth

Can I use any transducer with the madman product. How is the transducer wired?

Presumably the transducer is wired to a chart plotter or some type of display already?
The transducer itself can't be connected to a Madman NMEA to WiFi Bridge but if the chart plotter / display has a NMEA Out connection then that is where you would connect the NMEA to WiFi Bridge.

If it's a Tacktick wireless transducer you will need a Tacktick NMEA converter.

Re: iPad or iPhone sonar or depth

Cruz Pro makes depth transducers that output NMEA-0183 data directly. They can be wired directly to any NMEA multiplexer.

You'll need a Smart transducer/triducer by Airmar to send NMEA 2000 data to a bridge.... we are going with the Vesper Marine AIS unit as its more than just a bridge.

Thanks for that, I didn't know about those.
